From namaste to nama-stay: how Wellness Wednesday keeps us grounded

Meet Zaka's Wellness Wednesday, an initiative that fosters a positive work environment by promoting physical and mental health among our busy team. Have you ever worked in a place where everyone seemed stressed all the time? We have, and it was not a pretty sight!

That's why at Zaka, we've decided to flip the script and create a work environment that is not only productive but also fun and supportive. We believe that happy employees lead to happy customers and, ultimately, a happy boss! So, we invest in programs that prioritise the well-being of our employees, like our  unique Wellness Wednesday sessions.

Did you know that a positive work environment leads to increased productivity, higher job satisfaction, and lower staff turnover rates?

Studies have proven this, but who needs stats when you can see the team so motivated every Wednesday morning as they roll out their mats and let their inner yogi shine? It's not just about stretching our bodies; it's about stretching our minds and creating a space where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported.

Our weekly Wellness Wednesday sessions have become a staple in the office, with our team eagerly anticipating each session.

Whether it's yoga, meditation, or a brisk walk around the block, our sessions last between 20 to 40 minutes and are scheduled for the beginning of the workday, before checking emails. Other studies have also shown that even short periods of physical activity, such as those incorporated in our Wellness Wednesday program, can significantly improve mental health and reduce stress levels.

With the Zaka team facing long hours, pressured deadlines, on top of other life commitments, we recognise the importance of creating opportunities for them to take care of themselves.

By consistently showing up for Wellness Wednesday, our Zaka peeps demonstrate their commitment to their well-being and to the positive work environment we all aim to cultivate.

This consistency has led to improved communication, collaboration, and team camaraderie, resulting in a more productive and engaged workforce. Zaka's commitment to investing in its employees and their well-being has brought significant benefits for our company.

Our employee retention rate has increased by 20%, and job satisfaction has increased by 35% since the implementation of the Wellness Wednesday program. We are proud to lead by example and show how companies can promote physical and mental health in the workplace.

By prioritising wellness, we are investing in our employees' overall well-being and productivity, resulting in a win-win situation for both employees and the company. So go on let your inner yogi shine! We asked the team what they think of WW, and these were the answers:

"When I take care of my body and mind, I feel I'm better equipped to focus and perform at my best." Belinda, Account Manager and Graphic Designer."
"Wellness Wednesday is a fantastic team activity that is entirely separate from work time and designed to be recreational." Carolyn Ryan, General Manager and Creative Director.
"I just love the fact that Zaka cares so much about our mental and physical health. I also really enjoy the quality time with my colleagues and how good I feel after it."  Ines, Content Curator & Project Manager Assistant.
"After our session on Wednesdays, my mind is clearer, calmer and my concentration is on-point!" Leticia, PR and Communications Specialist.
